Before we get to the nitty-gritty, let’s just start off with a brief recap.

Gay as they are, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana not only argued for traditional nuclear family, but also condemn same-sex parenting. "The only family is the traditional one. No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow; there are things that should not be changed." the fashion gurus said for the Italian magazine Panorama and subsequently reported by LGBT blog The New Civil Rights Movement.

"How dare you refer to my beautiful children as 'synthetic'."
These attitudes prompted right off the bat a public backlash and perhaps the most vigorous response came from Sir Elton John who embarked on a campaign in Instagram to boycott Dolce & Gabbana, saying: “Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again.”

The creative director of Swide, Dolce & Gabbana-owned magazine, Giuliano Federico quits over the controversial antifamily comments. In a post on Facebook, Swide creative director stated that the design duos’ comments were “in total conflict with my personal beliefs and with my commitments towards civil rights in my country“. “I’m proud of being Italian, proud of our pasts and traditions,” Federico claims in his online statement. “But I believe that Italy can look at a more modern and equal future for our citizens and children. All children.”

Giuliano Federico and Elton Jon are merely some of the celebrities reproaching the top-of-the-line designers’ comments. Ricky Martin, Ryan Murphy and Victoria Beckham also backed Elton John’s backlash against the designers.
